What is it you see when you look
out at your lawn and garden? Is it what you always dreamed of, or
is something missing? If you’re missing something, what do
you envision as the perfectly decorated garden? You have a nice
patio from which to view the area, but you honestly don’t know
what to do to make it homely. Of course, you can go to the store
and find all manner of lawn and garden décor in every style,
material, and color imaginable, but you aren’t sure what you are
looking for, and shopping without direction can be frustrating.
Again, envision your dream garden
and lawn, and visualize the furniture upon which you wish to be perched
as you admire the handiwork in your yard. Is it made of wrought
iron, or is it simple wicker chairs? Are there tables or just a
rocker? Maybe you’re seated on some kind of wooden
chairs. Whatever the material, take it to heart as you go
shopping for new patio furniture.
If you can’t seem to keep the vision in your mind, sometimes
drawing it out can help. Having an actual layout and design can
be just as important and the materials used to create it.
Aside from the material,
you’ll want to be certain of the style in which you are going to
be decorating your patio. If the patio furniture in your vision is made
of wrought iron, you won’t want to pursue rustic patio
décor but something more modern in style, though still
simplistic. The look of wrought iron will work best with very
basic, casual design. Wood and wicker are quite versatile, so you
can opt for decorations for your patio tables in contemporary, classic,
cottage, and any other style.
Other things you may want to consider for decorating your patio are birdbaths, bird feeders,
and other attractions for creatures of the wild. Perhaps garden
statues are key to your design – gnomes, toadstools, and other
small sculptures that turn your plain lawn or garden into a virtual
fairyland. Don’t purchase items because they are in style
or on sale; purchase them because they make you happy, and you want to
have them in your collection.
As you shop for patio furniture,
keep in mind whatever budget you have set for yourself and don’t
forget that your expenditures should include more than just the
furniture – you’ll want other décor as well,
including pots for patio plants and other interesting items. Save
some cash for these, since you don’t want your furniture to be
bare and stand alone.
Above all, be true to your own
desires. Don’t let cost or stylistic intentions thwart you
from the pieces that would make you most comfortable and content in
your own yard. You’ll be happier once you’ve seen
your vision come to life.
